Established as an exclusive girls' summer camp in the 1920s, Wihakowi has seen many generations of visitors, including boys, added to the camp in the 1940s.

Other organizations that followed were the Vermont Congregational Conference in the 1950s-60s, the Life and Light Center in the 1970s, and, most recently, Camp Wihakowi was resurrected as a children's summer camp in the 1990s, focusing on respect for nature, the local wilderness, outdoor survival, Native American traditions, tracking, and especially fun for kids.

The Woods at Wihakowi, established in 2005, offers guests many opportunities to experience the picturesque natural surroundings, and maintains the spirit of the most recent Camp Wihakowi, with a family-friendly atmosphere.
